ESTHER
As the editor of Women’s Running, I feel like a bit of a traitor by confessing my chequered history with sport. I should be a proper athlete, right? But I’m not. I was one of those girls who hated PE, I felt uncomfortable in my body, and wasn’t fast or good at any sport aside from swimming.
I took up recreational running in my teens, encouraged by my sporty parents, but never more than a mile here or there, and always alone. Later, in my 20s, it became part of my exercise arsenal, but only if I didn’t have time to go to the gym, and never more than a couple of miles.
