Runner’s knee: have you heard of it? Of course you have! Every runner has either suffered from it or knows someone else who has. It’s the generic name for iliotibial band (ITB) friction syndrome and it’s the pain you get right on the outside of your knee that burns with every stride you take. For most people who experience runner’s knee, running downhill or even walking down the stairs can be excruciatingly painful.
Luckily, runner’s knee is an area that’s been researched a lot over the years and for any therapist it’s a very common issue that presents among clients. It’s also something I’ve suffered from personally. Here’s what we know about it.
