Revising your own poetry is a tricky subject. Some poets prefer not to do any, as it risks spoiling their hard work.
Personally I find that going over my poem on its completion will uncover the mistakes made in items like punctuation and typographical errors. Small errors? Yes, but things that will possibly exclude one from winning or being placed in a competition and/or becoming published.
