Katie Fforde shares her five favourite reads with Judith Spelman
WRITER’S BOOKSHELF
Judith Spelman
Katie Fforde is one of our most popular writers of ‘feelgood’ fiction. Her books are easy to read but as they say, easy reading is hard writing and Katie certainly spends time researching her subjects for accuracy, be they antiques, boating, farming, art, wedding planners, or simply romance – although romance is usually far from simple.
Choosing her five books was a task she took very seriously.
‘It was the very personal books with blots and notes etc that I would need to keep that I selected,’ she said. ‘The way I’ve decided what they are is that if I have mislaid them because I have either lent them or lost them, then to what lengths I have gone to re-buy them or get them back.’
THE MAGIC RING FOR THE NEEDY AND GREEDY,
By Phyllis Margaret McKenzie Twigg
‘The very first one, which is my fondest, is actually a cookery book. It’s called The Magic Ring for the Needy and Greedy and it’s by Moira Meighn. The reason I love this book is that it was my mother’s and it’s got her jottings of other recipes in the back of it. I remember saying to her once, “Oh Mummy, when you die all I want is…” and she said, “You can have it now!”
