QUARTER MSS
Quarter Press is a tiny press. The editorial team ‘love the blending of real life and the fantastic, the absurd, the magical, the heart breaking, and the things that scare the s— out of us.’
They welcome ‘book-length novels and collections targeted at any age bracket, so long as they contain fantastical elements.’ Their current preference is for ‘the darker side’, but they are not against the lighter side, either. High fantasy will be considered, but they generally prefer stories grounded in reality. For both their magazine and book submissions work must have ‘fantastical elements: scary, happy, creepy, heart breaking, bizarre, hilarious, whatever.’ Fantastical elements are a must. Be warned, ‘The darker, more explicit you go, the more we’ll really need to see its necessity to the work. We don’t want shock / horror / violence for its own sake.’ For book submissions query first for fiction, with a letter in the body of an email, with a short list of artists and/or styles you see fitting the work. Attach a 1-2 page synopsis and ‘the first 20ish pages’, or the first three chapters, whichever is shorter.
