The Royal Society of Literature is inviting submissions for the 2019 RSL Literature Matters Awards.
The Awards are given to writers and other creators, recognising past achievements and enabling them to work on a new piece of writing or literary project. The total Award fund available is £20,000. In 2018 six Awards were given, ranging from £2,320 to £5,000. It’s likely that there will be a similar number of Awards in 2019. The priority for the 2019 Awards is for proposals that will help connect with audiences or topics outside the usual reach of literature, and/or help generate public discussion about why literature matters.
Work undertaken with an RSL Literature Matters Award must result in new, original literary material of a high standard that will reach a substantial readership or audience. It may consist of a piece or pieces of writing, a publication, an event or a production. Work may be on any subject and in any form, including prose fiction and non-fiction, short stories, poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, graphic fiction, biography or travel writing.
