Readers have to use their imaginations. Whether the author is giving a physical description of a character or a place, writing dialogue or taking the action forward, he or she can only do so much. It’s up to readers to fill in the gaps and paint their own, personal pictures of the scene. And, however much detail the writer has given us, your picture will be slightly different from mine.
