THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION depends on whether your job is very demanding and you’re a woman. If so, possibly, say Swedish scientists who studied more than 3,800 people over 20 years. They questioned them on three occasions about their work pace, mental pressures and time allowed to fulfil tasks. Major weight gain was seen in just over half the women (but not men) with demanding jobs. The scientists say women often have greater responsibility for home life than men, so when this is combined with a demanding job they may have less time to exercise and look after themselves, resulting in weight gain.
