A clutch of watercolours by Keswick cartoonist John Billy (Wilk) Wilkinson (1906-94) will be offered at Mitchells’ Country Sporting auction in Cockermouth on October 5.
The nine Wilk cartoons carry estimates ranging from £80-600. Among them is this watercolour showing Margaret Thatcher telling huntsman Johnnie Richardson, from the famous Blencathra Hunt, “Don’t worry Johnnie your hunting’s safe in our hands”. It is estimated at £400-600.
The sale is taking place in two parts, beginning with hunting and shooting-related items on October 5 with the fishing section on October 10.
