Making Jewellery  |  August 2009
Welcome to our special occasion issue of Making Jewellery. In commissioning this issue I put considerable research into the current international jewellery buying trends. Whilst people are still purchasing jewellery, with the current downturn in the economy, it is evident that those shopping for special occasion jewellery are being very selective in what they purchase. Rather than buying several inexpensive pieces, women in particular, are buying one or two quality pieces that are an investment. Sales of diamonds, pearls and precious stones are up, as is the price of gold, platinum and silver. If you make to sell, the market for quality and high end accessories is still strong and this trend flows over into the market place for handmade original jewellery.
