THE Llangollen Railway is to formally open its Corwen station on June 1. This will be followed by a three-day mixed traction event, with all trains running to the new terminus. There will be trade stands and model railways in Corwen community centre and museum.
A platform gauging train successfully ran on April 4, with a four-car DMU comprising the Wickham and Class 104 sets.
Finishing touches continue to be made to the station. The canopy is now complete and the scaffolding down. Fitting-out of the waiting room and toilets continues. The original Corwen East nameboard has been mounted to the signalbox.
A minor leak on the new water tower has been repaired and the pump house commissioned for a test fill and empty, ready for replenishing steam loco tanks.
