IARNRÓD Éireann (IÉ) chairman Frank Allen reaffirmed the company’s commitment to growing rail freight. Speaking at The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Mobility and Supply Chain Summit on March 29, he outlined the company’s strategy to grow rail freight and said that transport of goods post-Brexit strengthens the case for rail freight – due to longer drivers’ hours for road freight in a tight labour market.
In his presentation, Mr Allen outlined that the potential with stakeholders and reactivating rail connections to all Tier 1 ports was the priority. He said that the Dublin-Tipperary-Cork corridor has the greatest opportunity for rail freight, with the potential to support 50 services per week by 2040.
