RANSOM NOTES
Wonky synth-pop fans will revel in Chloé Raunet’s third album, which adds sprinkles of post-punk claustrophobia and polar cold wave. Nothing’s quite as it should be, whether Reveller’s overstretched vocal, denoting her desperation, Flight And Pursuit’s woozy, pitchshifted harmonies, or Steal The Dance’s octavespanning keyboard melody. Pressure Drop, furthermore, employs musique concrète as adventurously as OMD’s Dazzle Ships before ending in a spooky gothic style reminiscent of Neil Arthur’s recent Fader releases.
