‘Brain rot’ beats ‘dynamic pricing’ as Word of the Year
A phrase that means a failing of mental alertness after bingeing on “trivial and unchallenging” online content has been voted Word of the Year.
It came top in the annual public poll run by Oxford University Press (OUP). Lexicographers placed it on the shortlist because it had “gained new prominence this year as a term used to capture concerns about the impact of consuming excessive amounts of low-quality online content, especially on social media” (www.snipca.com/53093).
