While smartphones make a reasonably good job of providing music on the move via streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music, serious music fans may want more. The FiiO JM21 is a portable digital player that plays albums and tracks from your own collection of ripped and downloaded music files, which will almost certainly be higher quality than tracks you download from streaming services (though you can also play those services via downloaded apps).
Impeccable design, outstanding audio and ample storage
The player is an impeccably built combination of plastic and aluminium. It has a relatively large 4.7in touchscreen, with a sharp 750x1334-pixel resolution and decent brightness levels to assist use outdoors. There’s plenty of room for track information, even though the device itself is smaller than most smartphones and weighs just 156g. Slip it in a pocket and you’ll barely notice that it’s there.
