Question of the Fortnight
When will you have to bin your Freeview aerial?
The BBC wants you to stream instead, but many problems remain
Tim Davie wants the BBC to nudge viewers towards streaming without leaving anyone behind
Public figures often struggle to speak in plain English, especially when describing technological change. Here’s what BBC Director General Tim Davie (pictured below) told MPs in the Culture, Media and Sport Committee on 4 March:
“Digging in purely on DTT is not where the BBC is. The BBC would like to be part of a proactive transition of the UK to fully digitised households.”
Translated, Davie means that supporting services offering the Digital Terrestrial Television service Freeview, isn’t the BBC’s priority, and it wants to encourage viewers to switch to watching TV over broadband, particularly on Freely.
