Can Argos refuse to take back tablet because I opened it?

Q In November, I ordered a Lenovo IdeaTab tablet (pictured) from Argos online, collecting it in person from my local store. Once I’d opened it and turned it on, I decided the screen was too big, so I returned it. Argos has refused to give me a refund, saying it can’t accept it because it can’t be resold as new. Can it do this?
