Is your smart TV spying on you?
They take screenshots of what you watch twice every second
The rectangular box in the corner of your lounge isn’t just a TV – it’s also a “mass surveillance system” that tracks your viewing. That’s the description used by Texas Attorney
General Ken Paxton, who’s suing Hisense, LG, Samsung, Sony and TCL for “secretly recording what consumers watch in their own homes” (www.snipca.com/57577).
He says they use a system called Automated Content Recognition (ACR) technology, which “in its simplest terms is an uninvited, invisible digital invader”. It can capture screenshots of your TV every 500 milliseconds (twice a second) and send the information back to the company so they can sell adverts based on your interests.
