The trial of a Fort William man accused of behaving in an aggressive manner towards his partner ended with him being found not guilty on Friday after just one witness gave evidence. Darren Napier, of the town’s Angus Crescent, was on trial before Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald after pleading not guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his partner on January 5 this year.
Napier was alleged to have repeatedly shouted at her and also thrown household items about, including her mobile phone.
His 40-year-old partner was the first Crown witness, but on taking the witness stand she told the court that she had been drinking heavily on the day in question and, coupled with the fact she was on medication, including beta blockers and Diazepam, she could remember very little of the events alleged to have occurred.
