■ Representatives of Lochaber Sensory Care for Sight and Hearing Support will visit Ardnamurchan on Monday February 11. Staff and volunteers will be in attendance at Acharacle Medical Centre from 10.30-11.45am and then at Dail Mhor Care Home in Strontian from 1-2.30pm. They will offer help and advice to those with hearing or sight impairment and will also re-tube and maintain NHS hearing aids, and supply NHS batteries. No appointment necessary.
■ This month’s Lochaber Local History Society talk will be held, just for this month, in the Alexandra Hotel at 8pm today (Thursday February 7). Maya Hoole will speak on the Scottish Rock Art Project. Thousands of prehistoric carvings are known in Scotland and there may be many more waiting to be discovered. Maya gave a highly-acclaimed talk last year on the creation of Ava, the image of a Bronze Age girl. She is currently working with the Scottish Rock Art project to examine and record these strange cup and cup and ring marks. Maya will speak on the work of the project, on theories of their meaning and of recently rediscovered cup marks at Blarmafoldach. All welcome.
■ The Atholl Duo will be the guest artistes hosted by Lochaber Music for All tomorrow (February 8), at Lochaber High School, at 7.30pm. Tickets on the door.
