TSSA general secretary Manuel Cortes.
The TSSA trade union says the Scottish Government must intervene to save the 19 jobs of workers at Abellio’s Fort William call centre. The TSSA, which is the union for workers in the transport and travel sectors, is seeking an urgent meeting with Abellio, following the company’s announcement last week it was transfering the 19 call centre jobs from the Ben Nevis Industrial estate to Glasgow. Abellio took over the ScotRail franchise in 2015 and plans to relocate the 19 jobs to its shared services centre in Glasgow – 109 miles away. TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes says the move makes it virtually impossible for the nearly all-female workforce in Fort William to keep their jobs.
The TSSA wants the Scottish Government to support the call centre work if necessary or ensure that ScotRail offer the best compensation package possible to the staff who they are bailing out on.
