Make sure you’re correctly set up for shooting
Capturing fleeting moments takes skill, practice, luck and the right camera setup. However, every camera is different and everyone has their own way of working so there is no universal solution. Focus and exposure are the two big parameters to get right. For exposure, a good starting point would be Aperture Priority auto exposure mode and Auto ISO with a ceiling of ISO 1600. The focusing side is probably more tricky to get right. Wide-zone autofocus with people-detect, perhaps paired with eye-detect, should work well in many cases. Cameras are far from infallible, of course, so you have to persevere and accept the fact there will be many failures before success arrives.
