PART 3
INCREDIBLE INSECTS
Butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies make brilliant colourful subjects, so you should seek them out with your macro lens
Insects are some of the most popular macro subjects. Whether it’s the incredibly intricate details on a butterfly’s wings, the large compound eyes of damselflies or the iridescent colours of a beetle’s exoskeleton, there’s no shortage of unique and eye-catching features for us to magnify with our macro lenses.
Butterflies are one of my favourite subjects for close-up photography – in the UK, we’re treated to a variety of colourful species, so you can see them outdoors during the spring and summer months. You’re never too far from a polytunnel, which are often home to a variety of species both endemic and from overseas. These can be shot all year round, even in the colder months.
