Few other series, and certainly none in Nintendo’s library, can match Metroid’s powerful sense of isolation. It’s essential to these games’ atmosphere, and to making you feel vulnerable enough to crave the relative safety of upgrades. It’s a little surprising, then, to play Beyond’s opening sequence and find it quite so busy.
