THE first of 30 piers has been completed for the 300 metre-long Curzon 3 viaduct in Birmingham.
Five metres (16ft) tall, the distinctive V-shaped support was created in two stages by pouring concrete into formwork. The mix incorporated ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS), which has a lower carbon footprint than traditional concrete.
