DIESEL power will take centre stage at the Talyllyn Railway (TR) on April 22. This year marks the 40th anniversary of TR’s ex-RNAD Trecwn (Royal Naval Armaments Depot) Baguley Drewry diesel locos No. 11 Trecwn and No. 12 St Cadfan, hence the unusual, (for theTR) takeover of diesel from steam for a day.
In addition to the ex- Trecwn pair handling full-line trains, TR’s 4WDM Ruston No. 5 Midlander and Hunslet 0-4-0DM No. 9 Alf will work shuttles to Brynglas and some trains over the full line, with Midlander also offering ‘Driver for a Tenner’ opportunities between Wharf and Pendre. The permanent way trolley Toby and TR’s Tamper will be on display. Other opportunities to see theTR’s diesels will be during the July‘Anything Goes’gala, which will also mark the 150th anniversary of the Glyn Valley Tramway (from which TR has two original four-wheel coaches) and an October 14 Heritage Diesel Day, which will centre on Alf and Midlander.
