WELSH Government Minister for North Wales Lesley Griffiths joined schoolchildren at Llandudno station on January 26 for the official launch of the new CAF-built Class 197 DMUs.
Assembled at CAF’s Newport factory, a total of 51 two-car and 26 three-car units will play what Transport for Wales says is a “key role” in its plans to improve customer experience and will be used on longdistance services across the Wales and Borders network. Featuring leather seats, charging points for electronic devices, passenger information screens and more modern air conditioning and wider doors than the trains in the existing fleet, the first members of the class entered service on the Conwy Valley line in November last year.
