HERE has been significant progress in the long-term overhaul of Bagnall 0-4-0ST Hawarden (2623/1940) at the Foxfield Railway. The boiler successfully underwent hydraulic and steam tests in the late autumn before being reunited with the frames just before Christmas. The loco is now structurally complete, but with several piping jobs to do before steam testing can begin. However, it is expected to be available for service during 2023.
Locomotive owner Dave Scragg has had major repairs done to the boiler, including new front tubeplate, outer firebox throatplate and firebox sides all round, alongside an inner firebox throatplate, all of which involve new firebox stays and boiler tubes. In addition, the loco has had a new smokebox.
