Pack up a hamper
This month could be a scorcher! Then again, it is the UK… I draw the line at rain, but if it’s just a bit chilly you can grab a blanket and picnic anyway: a commitment to the great outdoors, whatever the weather, is part of our national psyche. If you need inspiration for where to head, English Heritage (english-heritage.org.uk) has a host of beautiful places to visit; Forestry and Land Scotland has picnic spots north of the border (forestryandland.gov.scot) and Wales is similarly spoilt for choice. Carmarthenshire alone has moorland, mountains and beaches such as Pendine Sands (shown here) – see visitcarmarthenshire.co.uk for ideas, plus a list of delis where you can buy picnic goodies to take with you.
