ELITE cyclists provided with a ketone-containing drink were able to add up to 400 metres of distance – equivalent to a 2% improvement – in a fitness trial, according to a new study.

Athletes will be interested to hear cyclists benefited from a ketone drink

Researchers found the supplement, which was originally developed for military use, works by temporarily switching the primary source of energy during exercise from glucose or fat to ketones – chemicals produced by the body when it breaks down fat that are thought to preserve glucose stores, encourage the burning of fat and preserve skeletal muscle during exercise.
