P art Elf, part Arthur Christmas, this festive family offering stars Anna Kendrick (Into The Woods, Pitch Perfect) as Santa Claus’s daughter; she leaves the North Pole for the real world when her errant brother (It: Chapter Two’s Bill Hader) shirks his inherited responsibility. It’s not hard to see who’s better suited to the season’s top job in a comfortably predictable confection that tempers formulaic antics and some iffy VFX with a fun take on the Santa mythos, some sharp running gags and delightful casting – the ever-peppy Noelle fits Kendrick like a big red mitten.
