F rom I Want To Live to The Life Of David Gale, the death-row drama has long been a mainstay of ‘worthy’ Hollywood cinema. Based on the tragic true story of Cameron Todd Willingham (Jack O’Connell), a Texas man convicted in 1991 of killing his three young daughters in a clear miscarriage of justice, this plodding biopic brings nothing new to the genre. Making matters worse, Edward Zwick’s workmanlike direction keeps things simmering when the bloodboiling facts behind the film beg for something more incendiary.
