27-year old Laura Ruthnum, co-founder of Push PT and Cavefit Edinburgh Coach on why she loves running in the great outdoors
“Having spent most of my adult life in London, and most of that in basement gyms for work, saying I crave some Vitamin D is an understatement! In itself, it’s an amazing excuse to get outside, enjoy nature and actually get some fresh air in to your lungs. I love to explore new areas and, since relocating to Edinburgh I’ve had the perfect opportunity to do exactly that.
“Autumn is my favourite season! There’s nothing better than running on those freshly fallen crunchy leaves, with that dewy smell in the air. It also helps that races are in full swing. You can’t beat that motivation and endorphin high when you’re banking runs for a race. With this year and how races have been adjusted, there’s bound to be a huge infl ux of PBs and celebrations and even when the weather is freezing cold, getting out there and getting that nod of approval from every other runner battling the elements, makes you feel good. It’s the in-it-together mentality that you just can’t get from a treadmill.
