Leigh’s second try by Edwin Ipape came from great interplay between the PNG hooker and Lachlan Lam.
LEIGH LEOPARDS gave a supreme pack performance to dominate Hull KR and collect a big win to move up into second place in the Super League table.
“We’ve been working really hard to get to this position, so we’ve just got to hold onto it now,” said Leigh coach Adrian Lam said after seeing a five-try win by his side.
“Our first half was outstanding, as good as it’s been this year, completing at 90 percent. Going in at 22 points in those conditions was just exactly what we talked about and what we needed. Our big players stood up and got the job done.”
All the middle men were outstanding. Tom Amone, Robbie Mulhern, on-loan Dan Norman and returning Ben Nakubuwai set the platform and Rovers couldn’t match it, despite the best efforts of Jez Litten. A frenetic start saw Josh Charnley win a penalty with his first touch, as he fielded the kick-off with a foot on the touchline. Then Ben Reynolds couldn’t find touch thanks to the acrobatics of Ryan Hall, before Mikey Lewis was sin-binned after a foul on Tom Briscoe after Jez Litten’s kick went out of play and Briscoe picked it up but was tripped by the sliding legs of Lewis on the wet surface.
