HOPE FLICKERS BRIGHTER FOR TRINITY
WHAT a week for Wakefield Trinity!
Luke Gale’s latest injury setback seemed to pretty much up sum up their season so far - but then came that golden win over Wigan, which has provided hope that Mark Applegarth’s side could, somehow, yet avoid sliding out of Super League.
Having overcome a groin problem which meant he and Trinity had to play the waiting game after his transfer from Keighley, Luke caught the eye in his first two games, bringing a bit of much-needed authority and organisation and playing a key role in that impressive 32-6 win over Salford.
But then he picked up an ankle injury in training, at the same time as another Wakefield halfback, Morgan Smith, was sidelined for the rest of the season after foot surgery.
Trinity have also been without halfback Mason Lino lately, and also forward Kelepi Tanginoa, and of course they lost their exciting winger Lewis Murphy, who is set for the NRL with Sydney Roosters, to a knee injury suffered early this year.
Against Wigan, they had Will Dagger and Liam Kay in the halves, neither of them specialists (in fact Kay has also played fullback, winger, centre, hooker and loose-forward this season).
