ELECTRIC HYDRA
Electric Hydra
MAJESTIC MOUNTAIN Sweden’s desert rockers get hedonistic on their debut
So cosy is Sweden’s community of exceptional musicians that Electric Hydra were able to go on the prowl for a new guitarist and come back with At The Gates axeman Jonas Stålhammar. Needless to say that the five-piece’s debut album is crammed with riffs aplenty that fire off from the first notes of It Comes Alive. Born out of a shared love of dusty desert rock and doom-laden past tales, this is a rock’n’roll ride tinged with the occult. In another world the Joan Jettindebted vocals would lend themselves beautifully to a shimmering and sunshinedazzled Californian surf’n’psych vibe, but with those meaty, buzzsaw riffs stretching like elastic around fuzz and cymbal crashes, Electric Hydra have a hedonistic side. By the time the reverberating Rise From Below ends proceedings you’ll want to dive back in for more. ■■■■■■■■■■
