THE BODY
I’ve Seen All I Need To See
THRILL JOCKEY Noise-infused nihilists take an enthralling dive into the deep end
They keep on pushing. Following composer Roger Johnson’s notion that noise is a ‘liberation of sound’, The Body have gone fully untethered here. With their usual bleakness, the duo return to drums and guitar after having explored thefringes of programming and synth sounds. The result is far from organic, and even further from common. I’ve Seen All I Need To See is a study in distortion, drenched in the manipulation of established sounds and structures. Its perceived chaos is rich with gritty textures and details that will make you realise that Johnson was right: what you can find amidst these ear-splitting shrieks, convulsive beats and droning feedback isn’t hostility or ugliness – it’s freedom. ■■■■■■■■■■
