NIGHTFALL
Children Of Eve EASON OF MIST
Grand declarations of war from the Hellenic shadows
Greek metal bands have a tendency to sound grandiose: a reflection of the symbolic power of their ancient mythologies, perhaps, but also because they happen to be really fucking good at it. Nightfall have been around since the early 90s, but it’s in recent times that the Athens quartet have really begun to prosper. Children Of Eve is easily the most crushing and authoritative record in their history. Echoing the widescreen pomp of latter-day Rotting Christ, but executing it with brutish death metal flair, Nightfall rampage through these songs like a battalion of blasphemous Panzers, egged on by the ghostly voices of decapitated saints. Founding frontman Efthimis Karadimas is a menacing presence on the indulgent, mid-paced pummel of I Hate, and a snarling bully on the classic metal headrush of The Cannibal. Everything sounds huge, ungodly and Hellenic as hell.
