NOVELISTS
Coda
NOVEMVRKS
Gallic alt metallers spread their sonic net wide
Novelists retain traces of their sombre, djent-laced beginnings. While Coda floats in a vibrant bubble of indie-tinged alt rock and prog metal ambience, gritty riffs lie around every corner. All For Nothing’s coursing electronic whirlwind and the gorgeously tender In Heaven culminate in arena-worthy guitar solos. It’s a confident balance, showcasing the full extent of the French unit’s abilities. New vocalist Camille Contreras is equally adaptable, her feral howling on the title track segueing into dulcet, glistening croons. Some may sneer at 78 Rue…’s dream-pop, but the dynamic palette has its perks; on Maldición De La Bruja, Camille oozes attitude with a snarl of Spanish rapping.
