Lexington’s prince of the ghouls gets back to fun, filthy business
It’s been three years since Wednesday 13 plunged into the darkness with Horrifier – a record shaped by personal loss that swapped campy shock rock for something more unsettling. This time, though, it’s back to business with big riffs and a whole lot of sleaze. As soon as When The Devil Commands stomps in like a satanic Dr. Feelgood, it’s clear Wednesday is here to party. Mid Death Crisis piles on the fist-pumping, glam metal excess, with My Funeral packing a dirty Sunset Strip strut and Sick And Violent turning up the chants for a riotous finale. But beneath the fun, there is still filth. Rotting Away seethes with spite, wishing someone dead and buried, and Decapitation is a full-on horrorpunk brawler. This is Wednesday doing what he does best: revelling in the macabre and having a blast.
