The shipping container is a common sight today, either on the move (on the back of a wagon or a lorry trailer) or in a yard acting as a temporary office block or secure storage. There are approximately 65 million containers in the world, all built to standardized lengths: 20ft, 40ft, 45ft, 48ft and 53ft.
There are plenty of miniature shipping containers on the market but, I’ll admit, I never really gave them much consideration. That was until I saw a small cameo scene on a Belgian layout where one was being loaded. I don’t know why it caught my imagination but I was soon ordering a pair of Bachmann 20ft containers.
