I t is exactly 60 years since British Railways became British Rail, and BR’s seminal corporate identity manual was published.
The guide formally introduced the new corporate image comprising a colour palette of blue, flame red and pearl grey, the Rail Alphabet typeface designed by Margaret Calvert and Jock Kinnear and, of course, the apparently timeless double-arrow icon designed by Gerry Barney of the Design Research Unit.
