MARK PRETIOUS explains how he restored a kit-built model of a famous LBSCR locomotive, and gave it a new identity.
This locomotive arrived as a poorly painted model of LBSCR No. 214 Gladstone. It came to me from a well-known online auction site, so buyer beware is always a good caveat to hold onto. However, I did not realise quite how much it would ring true with this model.
My first impression when it arrived, was that it was clearly painted badly, but appeared to be solidly built. I don’t know who put it together, but it featured ‘live’ wheels on locomotive and tender, with four pickup blades to connect to the power feed.
