Do The Get Along

Although from London and living on land near Athens, Georgia where she makes Americana albums with partner Lawyer Dave as The Brokeoffs, Holly Golightly will forever be associated with Medway garage, coming to prominence in 1991 as a striking presence in Billy Childish’s Headcoats girl-group offshoot Thee Headcoatees. In 1995 she went solo, and this thirteenth album was recorded at Ed Deegan’s Gizzard Studios in London with drummer Bruce Brand, double bassist Matt Radford, the aforesaid Deegan, and Bradley Burgess on guitars and organ. It’s full of dry, witty songs mining late-’50s, early-’60s sounds and cloaked in sepia production. Golightly’s singing voice is a little like Nancy Sinatra’s, and a perfect fit for cut-you-dead R&B number Black Tongue, the rumble and twang of My Get Back and Rolling Along, a bluesy boogie.
