New Favorite (ROUNDER, 2001)
2001 was a big year for Krauss. New Favorite was bursting with bittersweet ballads and nimble bluegrass, but also arrived just prior to the platinum-selling O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, which featured two Krauss contributions, including the Gillian Welch duet I’ll Fly Away. New Favorite’s title track was a Welch/David Rawlings creation, but it was the charming single, The Lucky One, that bagged Union Station two Grammys, raising their singing fiddle player’s profile.
