YOU CAN hold Covid partially responsible for the hiatus in Africa Express activities since a 2019 show in east London, but various governments’ decisions to make their countries less accessible has worked against artists whose goal is to spread understanding and empathy through music. Perhaps, then, we should read something into Damon Albarn and co’s decision to announce their rebirth at a five-hour performance at last year’s Bahidorá, a Mexican festival a day’s travel from the USA’s southern border.
