PROJECT 2
PROP CLOSE TO TREE @ f/1.8 P
ROP FAR FROM TREE @ f/1.8
STEP 1 EXPERIMENT WITH PROP PLACEMENT
One of the easiest things you can do to change your depth of field is to move your subject closer or further away from your background. The more distance you put between the background and your subject, the easier it will be to blur it, even at values of f/2.8 or f/5.6, though a super-wide aperture of f/1.4 or f/1.8 would work even better. So if you find yourself struggling to blur the background even at wide apertures, you’ll need to move your prop, like our snowmen, closer to the camera and down the table. You’ll then see it’s easier to turn the lights in the background into beautifully large bokeh circles.
