AS WELL as keeping the ISO as low as possible, it pays to get the exposure spot-on too. If you end up with an image that’s too dark in-camera and then try to brighten it up later, you risk revealing more noise. Even shooting Raw doesn’t provide a safety net here. Although you can pull a surprising amount of detail from the shadows in a photograph when you process a CR2 or CR3 file, if you’re a bit heavy-handed with the exposure adjustment sliders when you work up the file, then you’ll start to notice more noise in the dark areas.
