I have an EOS R6, how can I switch between people and animal eye AF when out taking a walk out and about with my dogs and children?
Tony Blythe, Workington
BRIAN SAYS… Firstly the subject being detected only applies if you are using the face detection and tracking or one of the zone AF methods. The difference between animal and people priority is really noticeable if you try to photograph dogs running around people using the wrong setting. It’s most noticeable when you have animal selected and try to photograph people in my experience. Unfortunately you can’t configure a button to switch the subject being detected either. Quite possibly the fastest method is to use a custom shooting mode, configured with animal priority and keep people priority for the other modes. Then you’d just need to turn the mode dial to change subject. If you have selected an initial AF point for face detection and tracking AF, this helps to choose a specific subject.
