here is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world.” That was how noted astronomer, planetary scientist, author and eventual TV star Carl Sagan, in his celebrated 1994 book Pale Blue Dot: A Vision Of The Human Future In Space, describes the now-famous Voyager 1 space probe photo of 1990, entitled Pale Blue Dot, a stark representation of the insignificance of humanity amid the vast cosmos. The Overview Effect is the name given to the often quite harrowing impact on those witnessing the Earth from space for the very first time!
